Atlanta, Georgia based toy company, Teddylux Cashmere, (www.teddylux.com) takes recycling to a luxury level, restyling vintage cashmere sweaters into irresistibly soft, one-of-a-kind teddy bears.
Teddylux Cashmere designer, Brooke Serson Cernonok, started the company in 2003. The former Colorado ski instructor had moved to balmy south, and had a closet full of sweaters she no longer needed. The need for a special baby gift for a friend led her to pick up scissors, cutting and sewing a cashmere sweater into a bear. The gift was a hit, and a business was born.
Today, each bear is handmade in the Teddylux studio, a 100+ year old former rug factory in Atlanta's Castleberry Hill Arts District. "It's important for me to hands-on design a lovely product in an eco-conscious way, with recycled materials, " says Serson Cernonok, "and honestly, vintage cashmere is a treasure.so soft." Each bear has either button or hand embroidered eyes, a recycled suede nose, and coordinating ribbon necktie. The bears have been popular new baby gifts, as well as special heirloom gifts for children and "kids of all ages."
Teddylux cashmere bears are available in several colors and sizes, ranging in price from $40 - $150 USD, custom sewn to order, through www.teddylux.com. Each cashmere bear is gift boxed and can be shipped anywhere in the world.
